Infrequent Panic
Monday, February 11, 2008
Today I got a new check card from my bank as my current one expires this month. Getting a new card suddenly fills me with a lot of stress. Why? Because you have to sign the back of it. You only have one shot and if you screw up... too bad. You have to live with it for 2, 3, sometimes 5 years. Bah!!
I wonder if anyone else hates signing credit cards like I do? It's not like my fears are totally unfounded, I've ruined a couple signatures before. Hopefully I won't do it again...
Time to be a hero...

The New JustinBEvans.com
Wednesday, August 1, 2007

So I made the new site live tonight. There's not much (if anything) in terms of new content but there's a fresh coat of paint which gives the illusion of an update. So take a look and let me know what you think or if you come across anything broken. I'm going to work on reorganizing, removing, and adding to the galleries tonight. I've recently taken up a wave of junk cleaning by removing content and lots of old stuff from BWISH and JustinBEvans.com (and not to mention my new house as well).
Now all I gotta do is make new pretty things! The first official Rain Thief artwork will be unveiled this weekend in the form of a promo. I can hear Mike crossing his fingers.
In other news I did cancel that check I gave to that salesman by the way. Does that make me a mean person? Yes.
I'm pretty sure a gang of those kids I "could have saved" will be waiting at my door when I get home tonight.

How Justin lost $20
Tuesday, July 31, 2007

So Cat and I finish dinner last night and we're watching TV/piddling about and the door rings. I hop over to the door and peer through the eyehole and assess the situation. A few seconds pass and I am still investigating and Cat yells "You have to answer the door".
...
So I answered it.
Salesman.
He's helping get kids of the streets by selling magazines. He receives commission for selling magazines to raise money for kids, had kids, from Indiana, is a Colts fan (I was wearing a Redskins shirt) gotta help the kids, etc. This whole initial spiel take slike 5 minutes and suckers me into looking at this packet of magazines. He has me pick 3 magazines which I end up doing (PC Magazine, Vogue, and Electronic Gaming Montly). For 3 years of all 3 magazines would only cost me $206. Oh wait, there's a processing fee of $10. $216.
Ahem. I gently and kindly deny this offer but he keeps insisting. I tell him it's simply too much and try to get rid of him at this point.
This is precisely why I didn't want to answer the door, because I'm not a bitch and have a hard time getting out of these type of situations.
So he relents on the magazines, but says he'll take $20 to purchase magazines for children hospitals and such. I told him I would do that. Earlier he said I could pay with cash or check. I offer to pay with a check because, well, I figure that was smarter and well, I had no cash on me. But wait! $10 processing fee! It'll be $30 now. Sorry, I can't afford $30 of random charity. He relents and says $20 will be fine. So I write him a check and off he goes.
But wait! This whole time he's been holding a banana peel. He asks if I could throw it away from him because he doesn't want to litter. I oblige and he finally leaves.
So for $20 I...
Potentially saved a childs life.
Potentially saved my life, because I've helped take a kid off the street and therefore prevented future unwelcome situations for myself (Pretty much his exact words).
Stood in my doorway for 20 minutes.
Got a black banana peel.
